Personal Social and Health Education, including Relationships, Sex and Health Education
At New Cangle Community Primary School, we teach Personal, Social and Health Education as a whole-school approach to underpin children’s development as people. We value PSHE as one way to support children’s development as human beings, to enable them to understand and respect who they are, to empower them with a voice and to equip them for life and learning.
We use Jigsaw 3-11, which offers a comprehensive Programme for Primary PSHE in a spiral, progressive scheme of work, giving children relevant learning experiences to help them navigate their world and to develop positive relationships with themselves and others. Jigsaw has a mindful approach to PSHE and ensures consistency and progression to our children’s learning in this vital curriculum area. With strong emphasis on emotional literacy, building resilience and nurturing mental and physical health, Jigsaw 3-11 supports the school to deliver engaging and relevant PSHE within a whole-school approach. Jigsaw lessons also include mindfulness allowing children to advance their emotional awareness, concentration and focus.
The Jigsaw Programme is aligned to the PSHE Association Programmes of Study for PSHE.
We include the statutory Relationships, Health and Sex Education within our whole-school PSHE Programme.
