Extra Curricular Opportunities
At New Cangle we recognise the importance of the wider curriculum and value opportunities for children to take part in extra-curricular clubs, national events, engage with visitors and go on educational visits.
Extra-Curricular Clubs
Children can take part in a variety of after school clubs that take place in school. Currently there are several sports clubs on offer at lunchtimes, such as girls' football, dodgeball, hockey, tennis and tag rugby. After school children can take part in football clubs, the school football team and a dance club.
Visitors
We enjoy having visitors into school on a variety of topics. We have had visitors into whole school assembly, such as police officers or a Parliament Outreach Officer. Visitors also come into school to work with individual classes about topics they are learning, such as the Haverhill Historical Society visiting Year 6 who were learning about Victorian Haverhill, or a visitor to Year 4 to compliment their music curriculum.
National Events
Children have the opportunity to take part in events such as national competitions or fund raising campaigns, such as Children in Need or Red Nose Day. We are also proud to have sent a choir to the One Voice concert at the O2 Arena in London for several years in a row.
Educational Visits and Learning Outside the Classroom
At New Cangle we like children to take part in learning outside the classroom. We try to stay local as much as possible, in order to keep costs to a minimum for parents. Educational visits range from trips to East Town Park, Haverhill to visits to museums in Cambridge.
Residential Visits
Children at New Cangle rake part in the following residential visits:
Year 4 - 1 night stay at Burwell House, Cambridgeshire, with a focus on outdoor learning.
